Theatre is Hell...or is it?
Synopsis
Intro Monologue:
DIRECTOR:
I'm so glad you could make it. Not every audience would come to Hell to watch a theater performance. And today is a cold day in Hell. Of course, in this particular corner of Hell, it's ALWAYS a cold day. The actors are preparing to put on their ... well we don't like to say just how many performances they've put on ... but lets just say that there have been a Hell of a lot of Christmas Carol's here. The Prince of Darkness himself might show up for opening night. And if the show is good enough, maybe someone gets a "Get Out of Hell Free" card.
As if that's going to happen any time soon.
Soo ... you'll have to imagine the snowflakes, because in Hell the money for props, costumes and set is always gone before opening night. And guess who's playing TINY TIM this year! Everyone draws lots for the parts and the short straw gets to play TINY TIM ...
NOTE ABOUT HELL: in The Devil's Christmas Carol, Hell is not a place where sinners are punished eternally for the wrongs they did in their life. Hell is more like a "Reform School." Almost everyone spends some time in Hell. Hell is where you go to learn what mistakes you made when you were alive and to repay the "debts" you incurred. Many people never get out of Hell because they never realize that they did anything wrong. There is no purgatory. Everyone starts in Hell (usually) or Heaven (very occasionally). Hell's goal is that, at the other end of eternity, Hell will be empty of human souls.
It shouldn't ever be entirely clear to the other actors or the audience which of the characters in the show are on Hell's team and which are damned souls or imps (with a few exceptions). However, the actors should always know whether they ally with Heaven or Hell.
